London's Race

Last week was a tough week for me.  It is every year.  Every year I try to pump myself up and say "Be strong, Be strong, she is fine, your fine" and every year it comes and knocks me straight on my REAR END (insert big sigh here).  Life can be that way.  I feel better now  :)  Thanks for listening and your kind words

Whenever life knocks us on our rear we must get up and keep going, the race isn't over.  


Speaking of races, some of you have asked what race The Non Race Runner is training for in January.  It wasn't by accident I haven't mentioned the name of the race so my apologies if you think I wasn't answering your questions.  I was just ignoring you (with love).  A race really has to speak to me in order for me to sign up for it.  This one spoke, especially at this time of year it spoke, right to me.

Somehow I came across this race and it was perfect.  London's story touched me.  She was six years old when she was diagnosed with Cancer.  I hate cancer.  Cancer sucks.  Cancer can kiss my grits.  So many I love have been taken by cancer.  Others I love have kicked cancers butt.  So although I think there is a marathon race in the city right next to mine the same day as this race I'm going to drive an hour and a half to some small town, on some small farm, where I think this year they are actually getting all "official" and will have actual timing chips--I guess I better figure out what I'm suppose to do with those--on the shoe right? (j/k)  This sounds like my kind of race.  London lost her fight with cancer and this race is in her honor.  All proceeds go to help families that have children with cancer in this small community.  Yay for small communities, you are what make the world go round.  So there you have it!  The NRR 1st official race of 2011!

Red Rock Relay and Cherry on Top Award

I wanted to give a SHOUT OUT to my H-School friend Matt who is a crazy ultra runner who runs 50, 100, and 150 mile races and happens to be the race director of  the Red Rock Relay this weekend in Southern Utah.   It is a fairly new relay with this year being it's second year.  Lots of my friends ran it last year and said it was awesome!  The course alone looks completely amazing!  To quote what is says on their website: "Leg one begins with a ride up the ski lift at Brian Head Resort to the pristine air at 10,500 feet.   Legs 2 through 24 travel the extreme beauty of Cedar Breaks National Monument and the quiet evergreens of Dixie National Forest.  Legs 25 through 36 will take the team through the stunning beauty of the Pine Valley Mountains, Dammeron Valley, Snow Canyon, and St. George.  Team members will gather and complete their race at the finish line at the entrance to Zion National Park."

Check out a picture of areas you get to run through.  Pretty amazing.  It's something that's going on my bucket list. 

So last week I was tagged for the Cherry on Top award and I debated about whether I wanted to do this as I think it is sort of winding up but decided after reading several of these (especially Angie Bee's honest candid answer) I would.  

Rules if you haven't heard about this award:
1. Answer the question: If you had one chance to go back and change one thing in your life, would you and what would it be?
First thought was---How should I answer this?  Should I be witty? Funny? Flippant? or the dreaded Sincere?
Against my better judgement I've decided to choose the sincere route.  Mainly because not doing so would feel like a lie.   So at the risk of putting myself out there and letting my guard down here goes.
Answer to the first part of the question is a NO.  I wouldn't change anything in my life. Sometimes what we would like to change in life are mistakes we have made that have caused heartache, pain or suffering and sometimes they are things that just happen that we have no control over.  I really think that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% on how you react to it.
Six years ago when I was pregnant with my third child my husband and I made our way to the hospital and when our baby was born we held our precious tiny little baby in our arms but her spirit had already gone on to our Father in Heaven.  We weren't able to take her to our earthly home but she is forever in our hearts.   At the time I would have done anything, ANYTHING to change that.  Our world stopped yet everybody else's moved on.  Through the years I have realized that  having her was and IS a great blessing in our lives.  I don't take things for granted.  We were blessed with two more children and you wouldn't have ever heard me complain about my pregnancy, delivery or the sleepless nights as I did with the first ones.  Sometimes when things happen, perspective and priorities change, and you learn and grow if you are willing to.  I'm fortunate that I know about The Plan of Salvation and I KNOW that I will be able to be with my little girl again someday. So how could I ever want that to change?
 There is no good that can come of asking why me? or what if I did this instead? because it is DONE, you can't change it so learn from it and let it make you a better person for today and tomorrow.
